Coal gasification scheme receives seven applications in Round 1

The Ministry of Coal has received seven applications under Round 1 of the Rs 375 billion scheme for coal and lignite gasification from major corporate houses and public sector undertakings.

The applications received include one project from NTPC Limited for synthetic natural gas as the end product; three projects from Adani Enterprises Limited for urea; one project from Gallantt Ispat Limited for direct reduced iron and syngas; one project from Shyam Sel & Power Limited for syngas; and one project from Talcher Fertilisers Limited for urea. The applications will now undergo detailed evaluation in accordance with the scheme guidelines and the request for proposal. The Ministry has also announced the opening of Round 2 from September 8, 2026. The application window will open at two-month intervals, providing regular opportunities for eligible entities to participate.
