The Odisha government has approved transmission projects worth Rs 159.49 billion to strengthen the state’s power network. The investment will cater to rising industrial demand and support renewable energy integration in the state.
For the first time, Odisha will introduce a 765 kV transmission network by setting up three 765 kV grid substations at Khuntuni, Duburi and Kolabira. The government has also approved two new 400 kV substations at Kansbahal and Titilagarh. At the 220 kV level, the state will add 10 new grid substations, enabling 220 kV ring networks in Rourkela, Sambalpur and Bargarh. The expanded transmission infrastructure will also facilitate evacuation of power from floating solar projects at the Hirakud and Indravati reservoirs. It will also support evacuation from land-based solar projects in western and southern Odisha. Moreover, the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited plans to modernise the grid through artificial intelligence-based inspection and predictive maintenance of transmission lines.
