NTPC Limited has invited a global expression of interest (EOI) to set up a pilot grid-connected battery energy storage system (BESS) using sodium-ion technology. The pilot will assess the technology’s performance, safety, reliability and commercial viability under Indian conditions.
The pilot may be installed at an existing NTPC thermal power station or office building. Applicants can propose either a standardised BESS with 100 kWh of usable capacity or a suitable capacity for demonstrating their technology. The proposals will be evaluated based on the technology readiness level, among other criteria. Further, NTPC will provide land within its premises, a 415 V low-tension feeder connection, auxiliary power and support for statutory approvals. The selected applicant will handle design, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning.
