The Government of Malaysia has announced plans to deploy around 9 GW of gas-fired power generation capacity by 2032 to meet rising electricity demand while gradually reducing reliance on coal.
The government also plans to modernise the electricity grid and strengthen energy efficiency measures. Under the second National Energy Efficiency Action Plan, Malaysia targets an 11.6 per cent reduction in energy demand against the business-as-usual scenario by 2035. The government is also targeting renewable sources to supply 40 per cent of power for AI infrastructure by 2033.
