SJVN Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Thermal Private Limited, has achieved commercial operation of the 660 MW Unit-II of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar.
Located at Chausa in Buxar district, the project comprises two 660 MW units and uses supercritical technology. It has been developed at a total investment of approximately Rs 137.57 billion, revised at the June 2025 price level. The project is expected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually, of which 85 per cent has been allocated to Bihar under a long-term power purchase agreement. Unit-I of the project had already achieved commercial operation on November 14, 2025. With the commissioning of Unit-II, the entire 1,320 MW capacity has been brough into commercial operation. The project is expected to improve power availability in Bihar and the eastern region, reduce peak-hour shortages and strengthen energy security. It is also SJVN’s first thermal power project to become fully operational.
