The Government of Thailand has unveiled a draft Power Development Plan (PDP) 2026 targeting a 50 per cent clean energy share within 10 years and up to 10 GW of additional rooftop solar capacity. The plan also proposes expanded direct power purchase agreements, greater household participation in the electricity market, smart grids and energy storage to support grid stability.
The government is considering THB50 billion in funding and import tax exemptions for solar products to support the planned expansion. A residential net-billing scheme approved earlier this year targets up to 500 MW, allowing households to sell surplus electricity to distribution utilities at THB2.20/kWh under 10-year agreements. Thailand had around 3.3 GW of rooftop solar capacity at the end of 2024.
