SGC China commences operation of ±800 kVJiuquan-Hunan UHVDC line

The State Grid Corporation of China has put into operation the ±800 kV ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) Jiuquan-Hunan transmission line project. The project entailed the construction of a 2,370 km long, ±800 kV UHVDC line from the Qiaowan converter station at Jiuquan, Gansu, to the Xiangtan converter station in Hunan. The line will pass through Shaanxi, Chongqing and Hubei, and will have a rated power transfer capacity of 8,000 MW. In May 2015, the National Energy Administration approved the construction work for the project and work commenced the following month.
