Trading of ESCerts launched by BEE under PAT Scheme

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has launched the trading of energy saving certificates (ESCerts) under the Ministry of Power’s Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme. Under the scheme, ESCerts are issued by the ministry when designated consumers (DCs) achieve and surpass their targets. ESCert trading will enable industry players to buy and sell ESCerts at the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) and Power Exchange India Limited. On the first day of trading at the IEX, 10,904 ESCerts were sold at Rs 1,200 per ESCert. Upon completion of the first PAT cycle, about 3.8 million ESCerts were issued to 306 DCs by the MoP in February 2017, while 110 DCs have been entitled to purchase approximately 1.4 million ESCerts.
