APP seeks more time to install FGD equipment at thermal power plants

In a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Association of Power Producers (APP) has sought more time to install emission control equipment at power plants, citing various constraints, including COVID-19 followed by supply disruptions from China, which have posed challenges in meeting the December 2022 deadline.

As per government regulations, over 166 GW of thermal power plants have to install flue gas de-sulphurisation (FGD) technology in a phased manner by December 2022 to meet the environment norms. The APP has sought a three-year extension to complete the equipment installation process.
