Large-scale vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) technology is expected be deployed at a 100 MW solar energy power plant in China.

VRB Energy, a clean technology company, has announced a framework agreement for a 100 MW solar and 100 MW/500 MWh vanadium flow battery integrated power project at Xiangyang, Hubei Province, China.

The framework agreement was signed between VRB Energy and the municipal government of Xiangyang, local project partner Hubei Pingfan New Energy and Xiangyang High-Tech State-Owned Capital Investment and Operation Group (GXGT), earlier this month. This agreement contains provisions for constructing the first 50 MW per annum of a new 1,000 MW per annum VRB-ESS Gigafactory manufacturing facility. It also includes construction of a vanadium flow battery energy research and development institute.
