The Andhra Pradesh government has announced the commencement of a 750 MW solar project in Kadapa and a 100 MW solar plant in Anantapur.
Additionally, the state government inaugurated 12 Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh substations in districts of Alluri Sitharama Raju, Sri Satya Sai, Eluru, Palnadu, Nellore, Annamayya and Kadapa. The government also declared plans for the establishment of 16 additional substations in the state in districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, Konaseema, West Godavari, Guntur, Prakasam, Nandyal and Kurnool districts. The total cost of these projects is worth Rs 66 billion. The Andhra Pradesh government and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited have also inked a memorandum of understanding to set up 500 MW wind and solar energy projects each, including a pumped storage project of 250 MW at a cost of Rs 100 billion. The state government has also entered into a contract with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). As part of the agreement, SECI will generate 17,000 million units (MUs) of solar energy in the state and deliver 13,000 MUs of energy to the agricultural sector at a discounted tariff. SECI will supply 3 GW of solar energy by September 2024, an additional 3 GW by September 2025, and 1 GW by September 2026.
