Report on events involving Transmission Grid Connected Wind-Solar Plants

This report by Grid-India aims to analyse grid events related to frequent loss of Renewable Energy (RE) generation during the last year in India. A total of 31 grid events involving generation loss in the range of 1,000-7,000 MW in individual events occurred during the period January 2022 to May 2023 in ISTS connected RE pockets. The grid disturbances involving loss of 6-7 GW have been observed in the Rajasthan RE complexes as a consequence of non-compliance during LVRT and/or HVRT events. Such events are a threat to grid security. Given the goal of integrating 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and the development of numerous pooling stations, each of which currently supports up to 5 GW of RE generation and is anticipated to grow to 10 GW in the near future, Grid-India aims to identify the root causes of the RE generation loss incidents and develop a strategy for swiftly putting corrective measures into place to safeguard the power system.
