TCN energises power transformers at Nigerian substations

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has completed and energised two power transformers at its Benin substation and Ihovbor work centre.

At the Benin substation, TCN accomplished the installation and energisation of a new 100 MVA, 132/33 kV power transformer. This upgrade elevates the substation’s capacity from 240 MVA to 300 MVA, a move expected to enhance the overall power supply in the region. Simultaneously, at the Ihovbor work centre, a 100 MVA power transformer was energised. This upgrade translates to an increased capacity from 120 MVA to 160 MVA, reinforcing the Nigerian network’s ability to handle larger volumes of power. The projects are part of a collaborative initiative between TCN and the World Bank, aiming to improve bulk power transmission capacities and enhance the overall reliability of the power grid.
