Uttar Pradesh government approves green hydrogen policy

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a green hydrogen policy, and a proposal for setting up two units of 800 MW in Anpara in collaboration with NTPC Limited at a cost of Rs 86.24 billion.

Under this policy, the government aims to foster the transition from gray hydrogen to green hydrogen, with a focus on producing one million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2028, within a span of four years. This initiative is poised to reshape the energy landscape of the state, with industries established within the stipulated timeframe standing to benefit from substantial subsidies and incentives totaling Rs 50.45 billion. These incentives include subsidies ranging from 10 to 30 per cent on capital expenditure, with the first five industries eligible for discounts of up to 40 per cent. Additionally, the policy offers provisions for energy banking, entailing a 100 per cent rebate on intrastate electricity charges, as well as billing and transmission charges for interstate transactions. Notably, there is also a provision for a 100 per cent exemption in electricity duty.
