MoP urges power plants to strategize for ensuring electricity supply during summer months

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has urged the thermal power plants to engage in advance planning for electricity generation and to avoid maintenance during the upcoming summer season due to anticipated high energy demand.

This directive comes in light of the Meteorological Department’s forecast of extreme heat conditions from April to June, with peak demand estimated to reach 260 GW, surpassing last year’s record of 243 GW. The Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy underscored the importance of zero load shedding during the summer months, urging stakeholders to plan adequately to prevent power shortages in any state. Additionally, considering energy supplied by imported coal-based power plants, the directive may extend until September 30, 2024, according to a statement from the MoP.
