Philippines’ National Grid Corporation completes CNP3 interconnection link

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines  has completed the 230 kV Cebu–Negros–Panay Backbone Project Stage 3 (CNP3) interconnection project with the energisation of the second circuit of the overhead line (OHL).

The PHP43.4 billion CNP3 project comprised 544 transmission towers spanning 354 ckt km of OHLs, 58 ckt km of submarine cables, and 10 substations. The submarine cable portion from Cebu to Negros was energised in April 2023, while the portion from Negros to Panay was energised in January 2024. The first circuit of CNP3 OHL was energised in March 2024. The projected peak demand for Visayas, Luzon and Mindanao is at 2,628 MW, 13,273 MW and 2,650 MW respectively. The completion of CNP3 will facilitate the full operation of the 450 MW Mindanao–Visayas Interconnection Project, and improve the reliability and security of supply in Negros, Panay, and the rest of Visayas, in addition to the accelerated dispatch of renewable energy.
