REC may approve up to Rs 1.75 trillion for coal-fired power projects by 2032

REC Limited may disburse up to Rs 1.75 trillion in loans for coal-fired power plants by 2032, as India aims to increase its thermal power generation capacity by 80 GW within this timeframe.

Thermal power is expected to remain a key component of India’s energy strategy, supporting economic growth. Non-Banking Financial Corporation may finance up to 25 GW of this new capacity. The company is primarily financing the state-sector’s 50,000-55,000 MW capacity. REC plans to finance about 50 per cent of the new capacity in phases, with total sanctions ranging from Rs 1.50 to Rs 1.75 trillion.
