The Ministry of Coal (MoC) has unveiled revised guidelines for Mining Plans, emphasising responsible mining practices and a “just transition” from coal-dependent economies. These guidelines aim to regulate and enhance the sector through stringent environmental and safety standards, technological integration, and measures to support affected workers and communities.
The key reforms include provisions for flexible mining plans, enhanced safety protocols, and mandatory environmental remediation efforts. These guidelines also prioritise technological advancements and community welfare, ensuring a balanced approach to resource extraction and conservation.
The guidelines are under stakeholder consultation to facilitate an inclusive and comprehensive review process, ensuring that all relevant perspectives are considered. The stakeholders are requested to submit their comments by July 1, 2024.
