Botswana and Zambia plan cross-border interconnector

Botswana and Zambia are working on a high voltage transmission line to strengthen energy cooperation and improve electricity trade within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Zambia’s minister of energy, and Botswana’s minister of minerals and energy agreed on the proposal to establish the interconnector, on the side-lines of the SADC Week conference in Botswana. The proposed interconnector would be a crucial step toward energy self-sufficiency and power stability for both nations. Officials of the respective countries are working to finalise a structured plan to expedite the project’s implementation and maximise its benefits. The project aligns with broader efforts to create a more interconnected and sustainable power market across the SADC region.
