The Provincial Government of Binh Dinh has proposed including a 15 MW geothermal project, the Hoi Van geothermal power project, in Vietnam’s power development plan VIII (PDP8).
Located in the Cat Hiep commune of Phu Cat district, the project aims to help diversify the local energy mix and support the nation’s renewable energy goals. The proposal requires an investment of approximately USD32.7 million. The project is expected to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy security, especially in remote areas. The development of geothermal energy in Vietnam is still in its early stages, but the country’s volcanic geology offers significant potential for such projects. The Hoi Van geothermal project is part of a broader plan to develop 45 MW of geothermal and new energy sources in Binh Dinh by 2045.
