Gujarat government to invest Rs 290 billion to develop GEC-III

The Gujarat government is set to invest Rs 290 billion for the development of the third phase of the green energy corridor (GEC-III) to facilitate the transmission of 16,500 MW of renewable energy across key regions in the state.

GEC-III will connect renewable energy zones in Kutch, Jamnagar-Bet Dwarka, Banaskantha-Patan, and central Gujarat. The project involves the construction of 3,430 circuit km of transmission lines linked to six 765 kV substations and 860 circuit km connected to four 400 kV substations. Additionally, four static synchronous compensators will be installed to ensure stable power quality. This initiative follows the earlier phases—GEC-I, which involved an investment of Rs 19.32 billion for evacuating 4,000 MW, and GEC-II, with an investment of Rs 36.36 billion, scheduled for completion by March 2027.  Further, the state is modernising its distribution network under the revamped distribution sector scheme and will focus on underground cabling, technical loss reduction, and digitalisation to ensure affordable, reliable, and quality power supply
