The Bihar Cabinet has approved the Bihar Renewable Energy Policy 2025, replacing the 2017 framework and laying out a five-year roadmap to develop 23,968 MW of renewable energy capacity and 6.1 GWh of energy storage.
The policy encompasses solar, wind, biomass, green hydrogen, geothermal, pumped hydro, and battery storage technologies. It introduces incentives to attract private investment, including regulatory support, grid access, financial relief, and promotion of green tariffs and carbon credit trading. Rooftop solar norms have been eased to encourage adoption. Developed by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA), the policy draws on best practices from other states and supports innovative models such as hybrid parks, renewable energy zones, and campus-based projects. The initiative aligns with national climate targets and aims to position Bihar as a clean energy leader.
