Reportedly, the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) is set to install 245 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and battery-swapping centres across the state, primarily along national and state highways.
The stations will be implemented on a revenue-sharing basis, with the government providing land and selected bidders bearing installation and operational costs. Of the 245 sites, 160 will be located on WBSEDCL land, 32 on land allocated by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Limited, and 11 on other government land. WBSEDCL will supply electricity to the charging infrastructure, which must include both fast and slow charging capabilities. The initiative is part of the state’s roadmap to support an estimated 1 million EVs on the road by 2030.
