Tata Power Company Limited has signed commercial agreements with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) for the development of the 1,125 MW Dorjilung hydroelectric project.
The run-of-the-river project will be implemented via a special purpose vehicle, with DGPC and Tata Power holding 60 per cent and 40 per cent equity stakes, respectively. The project is located on the Kurichhu River in Mongar, the six-unit project (187.5 MW each) will include six-hour pondage to enable peaking operations. Tata Power has committed approximately Rs 15.72 billion in equity, to be infused in phases. The total project cost stands at Rs 131 billion, with World Bank support. The project is scheduled for commissioning in September 2031, with 80 per cent of the electricity generated will be supplied to India.
