GCCIA signs contracts for 400 kV Oman–GCC interconnection project

The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) has signed multiple contracts for the implementation of the 400 kV Oman–GCC interconnection and grid expansion works within the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The agreements were finalised during a ceremony held on November 27, 2025, at GCCIA’s headquarters in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The contracts were awarded to France’s Cegelec and EDF, Serbia’s Energoprojekt Entel, India’s Kalpataru Projects International and KEC International, and Oman-based firms Oman National Engineering and Investment Company (ONEIC) and Zawawi Powertech Engineering. The project includes construction of a 530 km, 400 kV overhead line between Ibri (Oman) and Al Silaa (UAE), two 400 kV GIS substations at Ibri and Al Baynunah, and installation of a STATCOM system to stabilise the network and support transfer capacity of up to 1,600 MW. Construction is expected to begin by end-2025, with commissioning planned by end-2027.
