Rahul Mishra Senior Vice-President and Head – Commercial & Industrial Business, BluPine Energy

Rahul Mishra brings over two decades of experience in the energy sector across Asia, including more than 15 years in India’s renewable energy ecosystem. Over the course of his career, he has worked across the full lifecycle of clean energy, from project financing and equity investment to building and scaling independent power producer platforms.

In his current role at BluPine Energy, he leads the company’s strategic direction and business growth, with a focus on expanding the renewable energy portfolio and enhancing long-term value creation. His expertise spans portfolio strategy, capital deployment and operational excellence, as well as strengthening partnerships.

According to Mishra, India’s power sector is undergoing a profound transformation. He notes, “Over the past two decades, we have seen a decisive shift toward renewables, and in the past five years specifically, India has made remarkable progress in scaling renewable capacity and improving grid integration. That said, we are still at an early but pivotal stage of this transition. As the sector matures, the next phase will be defined by clean energy expansion supported by storage technologies, grid modernisation, digitalisation.”

He highlights that one of the most persistent challenges is the lack of regulatory uniformity across states. While India operates as a single national market, electricity regulations vary significantly from state to state, creating friction in execution, approvals and long-term planning. Moving toward a more harmonised framework, essentially a “one nation, one regulation” approach, will be essential for unlocking scale and efficiency. Another major challenge lies in land acquisition and transmission readiness. As renewable energy capacity grows rapidly, securing suitable land and ensuring timely power evacuation continue to be bottlenecks.

One of the most significant assignments in his career was contributing to the development of India’s first ultra mega power project (UMPP), a 4,000 MW project awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding mechanism. During this period, he was with Power Finance Corporation, the designated nodal agency responsible for conceptualising, structuring and advancing the UMPP to the bidding stage. “Being part of this foundational effort provided deep insights into policy, regulatory structures and large-scale project execution, and remains one of the most formative experiences of my professional journey”, he notes.

Mishra’s management style is open, inclusive and collaborative.
