Empower New Energy has inaugurated a solar plus storage project for UMZA Rice and Oil Mill in Kano, Nigeria, under a 10 year contract covering the development, financing, construction and operation of a hybrid power plant.
The project was deployed in less than a year and comprises 1 MWp of rooftop solar capacity and 2.15 MWh of battery storage. The project was implemented with partners including Paras Energy which handled engineering, design, construction and operations, and Huawei, which supplied the solar and battery equipment. The installation is expected to reduce UMZA’s energy costs and improve operational performance by mitigating frequent outages and power quality issues that previously drove reliance on diesel back up generation.
