Energy China consortium wins EPC contract for 1,000 MWh BESS in Egypt

A consortium led by Energy China International, along with China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company Limited and Southwest Electric Power Design Institute Company Limited of China Power Engineering Consulting Group, has secured the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the 1,000 MWh Nefertiti battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Egypt.

The project will be developed at the Benban Solar Park in Aswan and is expected to be the country’s largest standalone battery energy storage system. The scope includes the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the storage facility and a 220 kV substation, along with upgrades to the receiving substation for grid integration. The system will provide around 1 GWh of storage capacity to support load regulation and enhance grid stability and flexibility.
