ADB launches USD 70 billion plan for energy and digital infrastructure in Asia-Pacific

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched plans to support USD 70 billion in new energy and digital infrastructure projects across Asia and the Pacific by 2035.

The initiatives aim to connect power grids, expand cross-border electricity transmission and improve broadband access across the region. Under the Pan-Asia Power Grid Initiative, ADB will mobilise USD 50 billion by 2035 for cross-border power infrastructure, including transmission lines, substations, energy storage, grid digitalisation and renewable energy export projects. The initiative aims to integrate about 20 GW of renewable energy across borders, connect 22,000 circuit km of transmission lines, improve energy access for 200 million people. The Asia-Pacific Digital Highway will mobilise USD 20 billion by 2035 for digital corridors, fibre networks, satellite links, regional data centres and artificial intelligence-ready infrastructure.
