The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a clarification laying down the procedure for rooftop solar projects seeking exemption from the applicability of Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for solar photovoltaic (PV) cells.
The relaxation applies only to projects where 100 per cent of the required solar PV modules had been installed before June 1, 2026, but commissioning under the net-metering framework was delayed due to valid reasons. Developers seeking exemption must apply through the designated portal with supporting documents, including GIS-tagged site photographs, invoices, installation reports and self-certification. Pending a final decision on the application, discoms may verify the documents and provisionally commission eligible projects using ALMM List-I modules. The exemption window will remain open for one month, after which no claims will be entertained. MNRE clarified that this is a one-time transitional relief and does not extend the June 1, 2026 effective date for the applicability of ALMM List-II to net-metering, open access and other renewable power projects.
