UAE’s Masdar awards 11.275 GWh BESS contract for Abu Dhabi RTC project to China’s BYD

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar), a UAE-based renewable energy developer, has awarded a contract to supply 11.275 GWh of its Haohan battery energy storage system (BESS) for a round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy project in Abu Dhabi, to Chinese automobile and battery manufacturer BYD.

Masdar, jointly developing the project with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), is constructing a renewable energy facility that will combine 5.2 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity with a 19 GWh BESS. Under the contract, BYD will supply its Haohan battery system, accounting for 11.275 GWh of the project’s total storage capacity.
