The Government of Indonesia is set to commence the first phase of its flagship 100 GW solar programme, with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announcing that a groundbreaking ceremony will be held shortly following government approval for implementation. First unveiled in August 2025, the programme is designed to significantly expand the country’s renewable energy capacity while improving electricity access in underserved communities.
The initiative targets the deployment of 80 GW of decentralised solar systems equipped with battery energy storage systems (BESS) across approximately 80,000 villages, alongside 20 GW of utility-scale centralised solar capacity. The programme is expected to complement Indonesia’s Village Electrification Programme (Lisdes), which has already provided electricity access to more than 1,400 villages out of approximately 11,000 previously without electricity.
