Haryana government exempts solar devices from VAT

In a bid to boost the implementation of the Haryana Solar Policy, the Haryana government has exempted solar devices from the levy of value added tax (VAT). The move is expected to encourage entrepreneurs to set up ventures for manufacturing solar devices and equipment in the state. So far, VAT of 5 per cent plus surcharge was levied on solar devices and equipment. Other states that have exempted solar energy devices from VAT include Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
