Bidding under SHAKTI witnesseses participation from 10 IPPs

The first round of coal linkage auction under the Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyla (Coal) Transparently in India witnessed bidding by 10 independent power producers (IPPs) with a capacity aggregating 9 GW. Companies such as Adani Power Limited, GVK Power and Infrastructure Limited, Bajaj Hindusthan Limited, GMR Energy Limited and Reliance Power Limited took part in the auction. These companies have signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with discoms but lack a steady coal linkage. Reportedly, 1-4 paise per unit of discounts was offered in power tariffs by the bidders. The total quantity of coal booked stood at 27.8 million tonnes (mt), of which nearly 9.2 mt saw a discount of 2 paise, while a discount of 3 paise was offered for 9.08 mt.
