Tamil Nadu allows IPPs to sell power directly to industrial consumers

The Tamil Nadu government has allowed private power companies in the state to sell over 1 MW power directly to industrial consumers. The decision has been taken owing to the surplus availability of power in the state, which is expected to further shoot up within a few days when the wind season begins. The decision to restrict power companies from selling more than 1 MW directly to consumers was taken in 2009 since the state was facing power shortage at that time.
