South Africa’s Eskom plans to launch tender for 360 MW BESS

Eskom Holdings SOC Limited, the South African state-owned power utility, plans to launch a tender for a 360 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in the first or second quarter of 2020 after receiving government approval. The BESS will have a daily power generation capacity of 1.4 GWh (which is sufficient to power 1.4 million homes for an hour). The project is the first of its kind in the African continent.
