Japan plans up to 45 GW offshore wind power by 2040

Japan plans to install between 30 GW and 45 GW of offshore wind power by 2040 to reduce emissions and meet a target to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050. ..

The plans would make Japan a global leader in offshore wind as well as makes clear explicit targets for the renewable energy source, which may spur more investment in the sector. These plans will form part of a green growth strategy to be rolled out by the government at the end of the year. The government expects the cost of electricity from offshore wind projects to be between 8 and 9 yen (7.7-8.7 U.S. cents) per kilowatt hour over a 30-35 year period.
