The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has worked out the cost of setting up fresh inter state transmission system (ISTS) for integration of the planned 278 GW of renewable energy capacity, part of the larger national target of 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030, at Rs 2.44 trillion.
This includes Rs 2.16 trillion as the cost of setting up the ISTS for 268 GW on-shore renewable energy capacity, including both wind and solar, coupled with battery energy storage system (BESS) of 51 GW, and Rs 281 billion as the cost of setting up the ISTS for 10 GW offshore wind energy capacity. Based on the assessment, the average cost of the transmission system to be developed for supporting grid integration of over 500 GW renewables works out to be Rs 10.7 million per MW.
