Works underway on the first waste-to-energy plant in Vietnam

BCG Energy, a subsidiary of Bamboo Capital Group has commenced construction works for the first waste-to-energy (WtE) plant in Cu Chi District, Vietnam.

The initial phase of the Tam Sinh Nghia factory, costing VND6.4 trillion, will have a waste incineration capacity of 2,000-2,600 tonnes and generate 60 MW of power daily, with completion expected by the end of 2025. The plant will convert heat from burning waste into electrical energy, and the remaining ash will be used as building material. Wastewater will be treated and reused within the plant, while emissions and ash will be managed to prevent pollution. Future phases will increase the plant’s capacity to 6,000 and 8,600 tonnes per day, producing 130 and 200 MW respectively. This plant will be the first operational WtE facility in HCMC. The city had approved another similar project by Vietstar Company, which is still in the procedural stages. Additionally, two other waste treatment projects use artificial lightning energy and solid waste recycling, with a combined capital of over VND13 trillion.
