Malaysian TNB and Keppel Electric sign 100 MW power deal for ASEAN integration Tenaga Nasional Bhd

Malaysia’s state owned power utility, has entered into a significant cross-border agreement with Keppel Renewable Energy to supply up to 100 MW of electricity.

This follows the Singaporean energy market authority’s (EMA) decision to extend Keppel’s licence to import electricity for another two years until 2026. This initiative is part of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR)–Thailand Malaysia–Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP), which was launched in June 2022 as the first multilateral cross-border trading of renewable energy among the four Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. An initial two-year power purchase agreement was signed at the time between Keppel and Laos’ state-owned Electricite du Laos (EDL) to import up to 100 MW of renewable hydropower via Thailand and Malaysia using existing infrastructure. With Phase II of LTMS-PIP, the amount of electricity traded will double.
