SGCC advances three ±800 UHVDC projects across China

China’s largest transmission company, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), has announced significant progress on three major ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) projects.

The Hubei section of the ±800 Ningxia–Hunan UHVDC transmission project was connected after 18 months of construction, marking a significant milestone in the development of China’s UHV power transmission network. Additionally, SGCC stated that the ±800 kV Hami–Chongqing UHVDC project is on track and will start operation in May. They have also officially begun construction at the N4673 tower foundation site in Digang Town, Wuhu City, Anhui Province, marking the start of the Anhui section of the ±800 kV Gansu–Zhejiang UHVDC transmission project, a key infrastructure initiative under China’s 14th Five-Year Plan for power development. The Ningxia–Hunan UHVDC transmission project entails building 1,634 km of lines that start in Zhongwei City,  Ningxia Province, at the edge of the Tengger Desert, travel through the provinces of Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, and Hubei, and finally reach Hunan.
