Madhya Pradesh government approves solar and storage projects for shared supply with Uttar Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government has approved the development of a 2,000 MW solar park and a 1,000 MW composite energy storage system project to facilitate shared electricity supply between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The project is designed to supply power on a complementary basis to both states, with each receiving electricity for six months annually based on their peak seasonal demand.

As per the government, Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural power demand peaks during the Rabi season (October–March), accounting for approximately 41 per cent of the state’s total electricity consumption. In contrast, Uttar Pradesh sees higher electricity demand during the Kharif season (April–September). The complementary nature of the two states’ agricultural load profiles enables optimal utilization of the solar and storage capacity, enhancing energy security and efficiency across the region.
