Tanzania completes 83 per cent of 400 kV line under TAZA interconnection project

Tanzania has completed 83.45 per cent of the 400 kV transmission line under the Tanzania–Zambia (TAZA) Transmission Interconnector Project.

The interconnection project entails the construction of a 400 kV transmission line linking Iringa to the Zambia border via Tunduma. In Tanzania, the scope includes a 616 km Iringa–Kisada–Mbeya–Tunduma overhead line, a 4 km extension to the Zambia border, and a spur line from Tunduma to the Malangali substation in Sumbawanga. The project aims to strengthen regional electricity trade and grid stability between the Southern African Power Pool and the Eastern Africa Power Pool.
