Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) is targeting rapid expansion across Africa, with plans to establish operations in nearly every country on the continent within the next five years. The company aims to increase its overseas revenue share from Africa from 30 per cent to 40–45 per cent by 2030, driven by investments in clean energy, hydropower, and gas-fired power projects.
The company is currently implementing renewable energy projects worth USD 3.5 billion in South Africa, including solar photovoltaic systems and the Redstone concentrated solar power plant. Past projects include Ethiopia’s Adama wind farm. Despite a slowdown in Chinese government lending to Africa, PowerChina continues to pursue renewable-led growth as part of its international strategy.
