China has issued guidelines aimed at scaling up the deployment of green microgrids in the industrial sector.
Under the guidelines, newly developed renewable power projects at industrial enterprises and industrial parks will be required to ensure that at least 60 per cent of the electricity generated is consumed locally or in nearby areas on an annual basis. The guidelines also emphasise the prioritisation of advanced equipment and technologies, including high-efficiency water electrolysis systems for hydrogen production, fuel cell-based power generation facilities, and integrated wind-solar-hydrogen production systems. These technologies are expected to play a central role in enabling deeper decarbonisation of industrial energy consumption. The policy framework has been jointly issued by China’s State Council along with five government departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
