Under the patronage of the Ministry of Power, the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 – a global conference-cum-exhibition for the power and electricity sector – will be held on March 19–22, 2026, at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. Power Line is the media partner for the summit.
The theme of the four-day event, “Electrifying Growth. Empowering Sustainability. Connecting Globally”, reflects its focus on showcasing India’s leadership in the global energy transition while addressing the sector’s emerging challenges and opportunities. The summit will bring together domestic and international stakeholders from government, industry and academia to deliberate on the
future of electricity and sustainable energy systems, facilitate cross-sector dialogue and strengthen global cooperation through strategic partnerships.
The summit comes at a crucial juncture, as India’s power sector is undergoing a phase of strong growth marked by record renewable capacity additions, evolving market mechanisms and rapid digital transformation. During 2025–26 (up to January 31, 2026), India added 52,537 MW of power generation capacity across various sources. Renewable energy accounted for the bulk of this expansion,
contributing 39,657 MW, including 34,955 MW of solar and 4,613 MW of wind capacity. Notably, this represents the highest-ever capacity addition achieved in a single year, underscoring the accelerating pace of the country’s energy transition and the growing dominance of renewables in the capacity mix.
The transmission segment has also witnessed significant progress. In January 2026, India’s national power transmission network crossed a major milestone of over 500,000 ckt km of transmission lines (220 kV and above), along with 1,407 GVA of transformation capacity (220 kV and above). Furthermore, the country’s power distribution utilities collectively recorded a positive profit after tax of Rs27.01 billion in 2024–25, marking a significant turning point for the segment.
As a precursor to the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, we are bringing out a special section on the key developments and emerging trends in the power sector, aligned with the summit’s core themes. The section presents overviews of India’s generation, transmission and distribution segments, along with focused insights on renewable financing, domestic manufacturing, technological advancements
and global collaborations. We hope this special section will add value to the discussions and deliberations at the summit.
