Azerenerji Joint Stock Company, Azerbaijan’s vertically integrated energy company, is set to commence construction of a major high voltage transmission line as part of the Azerbaijan Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Project (AZURE) initiative.
The project involves the development of a 235-km, 500 kV single-circuit (S/C) overhead transmission line (OHTL) connecting the Azerbaijan thermal power plant (TPP) substation to the Navahi substation. The AZURE initiative is supported by the World Bank through a USD173.5 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), aimed at strengthening Azerbaijan’s high voltage grid and enabling integration of renewable energy. Subcomponent 1.2, focused on the 500 kV expansion, has an allocated cost of USD134.6 million.
