South Africa’s Eskom plans ZAR343 billion capex through 2031

South Africa’s state-owned power utility, Eskom, has announced plans to invest ZAR343 billion in capital expenditure (capex) across its generation, transmission and distribution businesses over the next five years, as part of efforts to strengthen operational and financial sustainability.

The annual capex was announced as part of a briefing in the Parliament’s electricity and energy committee – ZAR55 billion in 2026-27, ZAR66 billion in 2027-28, ZAR72 billion in 2028-29, ZAR78 billion in 2029-30, and ZAR73 billion in 2030-31.
