Malaysia’s TNB commissions 100 MW/400 MWh Santong BESS

Malaysia’s state-owned electricity utility, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has officially launched the 100 MW/400 MWh Santong BESS at the 132/33 kV Santong main intake substation in Paka, Dungun district of Terengganu, Malaysia, marking the country’s first utility-scale BESS directly integrated into the national grid. The project was inaugurated on May 18, 2026 by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA). The MYR380 million project is equipped with grid-forming (GFM) inverters and liquid cooled battery technology.
