At BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), Anil Bohara is responsible for ensuring safe and reliable grid operations, while driving the adoption of advanced automation technologies to enhance operational efficiency and deliver reliable power supply to over 3.3 million consumers in South Delhi and West Delhi.
With over 34 years of experience across the power value chain, Bohara has worked in transmission, generation and distribution with both public and private sector utilities. His expertise spans engineering, project execution, operations and maintenance, extra high voltage systems, grid automation and network modernisation. He began his career as a graduate engineer trainee at Secure Meters Limited and subsequently, held key positions at Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited, Reliance Infrastructure and BRPL, which he joined in 2016.
According to Bohara, India’s power sector is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by the rapid growth of renewable energy, increasing electric vehicle adoption, smart grid deployment and digitalisation. Looking ahead, he sees greater adoption of artificial intelligence, internet of things and distributed energy resource management systems as essential for building intelligent, resilient and consumer-focused electricity networks.
Bohara identifies holistic network planning, grid stability with higher renewable energy penetration, infrastructure modernisation, workforce upskilling, accurate asset and consumer mapping and stronger customer engagement as some of the key challenges facing the sector today. Addressing these issues, he believes, will require a balanced approach, combining technology adoption, policy support and operational innovation.
Among the defining milestones of his career, Bohara considers the design, execution and commissioning of the 765 kV switchyard for the Sasan ultra mega power project as his most memorable assignment, citing its technical complexity, scale and successful coordination across multiple stakeholders. He describes his management style as structured, collaborative and innovation-driven, with emphasis on clear communication, measurable outcomes and team empowerment.
Bohara is an electrical engineering graduate from the Government Engineering College, Kota, and also holds a management diploma from ICFAI, besides being a Certified Energy Auditor. Outside work, he enjoys travelling, spending time with family and listening to podcasts.
